Buffalo Bills edge rusher Von Miller has denied allegations of assaulting the mother of his children, who is pregnant, calling them “100% false” and “exaggerated.”
During his first media address since surrendering to suburban Dallas police on November 30, Miller acknowledged having relationship issues with his girlfriend “like any other couple.” However, he emphasized that none of those issues involved the allegations against him.
“It’s blown out of proportion. I’ve got the right people dealing with this,” Miller stated, referring to his legal representation. “I know who I am. I know my character. I understand the type of person I am and the dynamics of my relationship with my girlfriend.”
The 34-year-old Miller faces a third-degree felony charge of assaulting a pregnant woman, carrying a penalty of 2 to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. He was released after posting a $5,000 bond. Miller and the woman have been in a relationship for seven years.
Dallas prosecutors haven’t provided updates on the investigation since Miller’s surrender, a day after the alleged assault on November 29. According to a police affidavit, Miller allegedly put his hands on the woman’s neck twice, pulled out some of her hair, and threw her onto a couch. The woman received treatment for minor injuries, including bruising on her neck, as stated by the police.
Miller mentioned there were certain aspects of the ongoing investigation that he couldn’t discuss but felt it was crucial to speak out after nearly a month of silence.
“All of it is incorrect,” he stated. “It’s not a joking matter, but all of it is incorrect and untrue. The only truth is that we’re expecting a third son.”
The Bills have allowed Miller to continue playing due to the absence of charges. The NFL is conducting its own investigation, monitoring the legal proceedings closely.
Miller holds the NFL’s current record for sacks among active players and has won the Super Bowl twice. He is currently in his second season playing for the Buffalo Bills.
